Update on Face Coverings for Summer Programs and Camps

Late last week, school districts received updated guidance from the Department of Health regarding masks/face coverings for summer programs and camps.  The district is following this latest guidance which includes:

  • Unvaccinated children/campers are strongly encouraged but are not required to wear face coverings indoors, especially when social distancing cannot be maintained.

  • Face coverings must continue to be worn on school buses by all, regardless of vaccination status.

  • Unvaccinated staff are required to wear a face covering inside all school facilities.

  • Face coverings are not required outdoors.

  • Face coverings may be necessary when physical distancing of three feet is not possible.

While the guidance does provide flexibility, Schenectady County Public Health Services encourages the continued usage of face coverings for unvaccinated children when indoors.

This guidance applies to summer programming only.  Guidance for September 2021 and the opening of school has not yet been released.  We will share updates as they become available.
