The Schenectady City School District was recently honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.  Schenectady is one of 4 percent of districts across the nation receiving the award in 2017.

The Best Communities Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.  To qualify, answers to questions regarding funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs, must be provided and then are verified and reviewed.

Schenectady also received the award in 2013, 2015 and 2016.  Music teacher Mary Lattanzio applied for the award on behalf of the district each of the years.

The Schenectady City School District remains steadfast in its commitment to music education and recognizes the importance of keeping music education part of the curriculum offerings that are available to all students.
