The Smart Schools Bond Act, which was passed as part of the 2014-15 Enacted Budget and approved during the 2014 General Election, authorizes the issuance of $2 billion of general obligation bonds to finance improved educational technology and infrastructure to improve learning and opportunity for students throughout New York State.

The Smart Schools Commission released a report in fall 2014 outlining how school districts could invest the money allocated to each district.

The SSBA requires that a Review Board review and approve each district's Smart Schools Investment Plan before funds may be available for the program.

A hearing regarding the Schenectady City School District Smart Schools Preliminary Investment Plan Phase I was held on April 06 2016.

Smart School Investment Plan Phase I

Funding Allocation for Schenectady City School District:    $9,364,497
District officials are working with the Engagement Committee to determine the complete plan for the allocation.

The plan approved by the  Board of Education authorized the following:

Smart Schools Investment Plan of $906,582 to purchase classroom technology and improve connectivity in district schools.

Each school district is required to complete an annual survey of their technology plan.  The survey was completed and from which the 2015-2018 Technology Goals were developed.  These goals are outlined in the plan and presentation
that was delivered on February 24, 2016.
